Classmates In Memory

James "Jimmy" Radford

James Jimmy Radford

James (Jimmy) Radford

July 18, 1948 - March 24, 2018

James Perry Radford, 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24, 2018, surrounded by family at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Jimmy was born on July 18, 1948 in Raleigh, NC, to the late Margaret Helen and Bruce Perry Radford. He leaves cherished memories to Janice and his sons Michael and Matthew; sisters and brothers-in-law Lynda and Marty, Rose and Bert, and Susie and Aaron; nephew Nathan and his wife Laura; niece Marida; future daughter-in-law Misty; the late Brandi, Aunt Beckie; Kevin; many cousins; and many good friends.

Jim had an uncanny ability to touch people through his kindness, genuinely sweet heart, and unique wit. He graduated from Enloe High School in 1966 and with honors in academics and athletics from Greensboro College in 1970. He was a superb athlete, excelling in many sports. He was recruited to join the inaugural basketball team at Greensboro College, where he set numerous enduring scoring records. Jim was inducted into the Greensboro College Hall of Fame in 1996 and 2017.  Jim loved playing golf with friends and especially looked forward to Parent-Child tournaments at Shamrock Golf Club.

Jim was employed by Carpet Care of the Carolinas for over thirty years. He liked to say that he had walked more miles backwards, pulling his machine, than he had walked forwards. He greatly appreciated his job and he thoroughly enjoyed his co-workers.

Always a proud Tar Heel, Jim would have liked any donations in his honor to be made to the University of North Carolina Medical School.

Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff at Alamance Regional for their genuine care.

A memorial service to honor Jimbo will be held at a later date.  Please visit and register at www.jimmyradford.com for information. He is and will be greatly missed!
