When I graduated from Enloe I went to Northwestern in Chicago, then transferred back to UNC-CH and finally graduated from the University of Southern Maine in Portland with a degree in psychology. Along the way I had three "careers". The first was in the restaurant business where I managed everything from a "mom and pop" to a full service French restaurant, and spent many years with McDonalds. Next I was in the ministry as a lay pastor, founding and pastoring a church in Portland, Maine. Finally I spent almost 40 years (some of it concurrently with pastoring) as a business consultant focusing on absence and disability management (www.simonds-associates.com). I've been married three times and have three fantastic grown kids, two stepchildren and eleven unbelievable grandkids most of whom live in the Portland area. I'm living on an island in Maine - you can ask Pat and Jack about it - they've visited twice. I am blessed to have family that are more like friends and friends that are more like family...and I count my Enloe classmates in that later group.

School Story

I transferred into Enloe from Daniels Junior High in the 10th grade when we moved from Country Club Hills to New Bern Avenue. I only knew three people: Pat Reaves, Tim Bevacqua, and David Bevacqua, but they all made me feel welcome. My first official date at Enloe was Barbara Atkins, although I had drivers ed with her (and Laura Lewis) the next summer and was sure one of the days she was driving was to be my last! I lived next door to Jim Perry, and on more than a few Friday nights we snuck out and spent the night roaming the neighborhood. My fondest memories were of 5th period lunch. I couldn't finish eating fast enough to get to the study hall across from Mrs. Bevacqua's room to hang out. I remember so much humor during those lunches.

Gary, do you have any contact with Jim Perry? I lost track of him back in the 80's. I'd love to get ahold of him and invite him to the reunion.
